What is the Training-on-the-Job Program?

Did you know as an Alberta employer, you can take advantage of the WCB’s Training-on-the-Job (TOJ) program to hire a new employee? Did you know that it can save you time, money and training costs while protecting you from a WCB claim due to any injury or re-injury? Did you also know that it can positively impact WCB premiums? When a worker gets injured on the job it can sometimes lead to permanent work restrictions that prevent them from being able to return to their pre-accident position. In most cases, the injured worker still has many valuable transferable skills, education or experience that can make them a productive member of the workforce, they just need the opportunity to prove it.  WCB Alberta offers incentives to Alberta employers who provide job opportunities for injured workers that are unable to return to their pre-injury employment. Go to your nearest hospital or call 911** The conversation starts today, January 26th, 2022, with Bell Let’s Talk (#BellLetTalk) day bringing attention to mental health awareness and helping to break the silence surrounding mental illness. It continues Mental Health Week, May 2nd – 8th, 2022, with a campaign (#GetLoud) promoting open discussion regarding mental illness, how to stop the associated discrimination and stigma, while raising awareness and building support for those who suffer. Bullying & Harassment: Is it an Acceptable WCB Stress?

While there was a time when the stress of your job did not constitute the basis of an acceptable workers’ compensation claim, the times they are changing, or so it may seem.  With the emergence of campaigns like anti-bullying,  #MeToo, and #BellLetsTalk (coming up later this month on January 29th), discussions around mental health issues and their impact on how we live has become more prevalent. Issues like bullying (including cyber-bullying), harassment and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are being more widely recognized, acknowledged and accepted in a work-related context.  Although ‘stress’ is not a medically accepted diagnostic term, mental stress is commonly used to describe a person’s non-specific physical and psychological response to the events or changes that occur in his or her life.
